An annex is an area extending into the backyard or down the side of the house to create a space that incorporates a garden bed or something of appeal for your cat. A bit more framework can be required, but it is worth the effort.
Foster cats’ outdoor playground
I have recently completed an area for a foster carer and the cats’ she looks after (in addition to her own cat). The bottom section was made out of weld mesh as mums with young kitten’s are frequently residents that are in need of a temporary home. The weld mesh provides additional security for kittens with very sharp teeth and any dogs that might be visiting.
Outdoor cat paradise
This beautiful area has had a lot of time and effort gone in to creating a cat friendly, aesthetically appealing area for a much loved cat to enjoy some time outside. Extensive tunnelling was required to access the annex area from the cat door in a window of the house.
Annex at the front of a house
This annex created at the front of the house has powder coated posts and rails to match fascia and window frame paint colour, allowing it to match in well with the front entrance. Weld mesh to a height of 1m has been placed at the base of the enclosure for added protection against neighbouring dogs.
Another example with a happy customer enjoying his vantage points!
